DS Core™: Upload of historical X-ray data from Sidexis® 4 software now available

Posted on Thursday, May 16, 2024

Dentsply Sirona helps connect different digital systems to create flexible workflows. DS Core™, an open cloud-based platform, offers the capability to seamlessly integrate Dentsply Sirona equipment, saving the generated data centrally in a database and making it usable for various workflows as easily as possible.

DS Core™ provides dentists with a comprehensive patient media library. Previously, new media files were automatically uploaded, but the new uploader can now also integrate historical image data. The new uploader is available from the equipment menu in DS Core™. Once installed, users can upload historical data patient by patient (Sidexis® version 4.3.1 and newer) or upload all patient data for the past one, three and five years, or the entire history (Sidexis® version 4.4).

Dr. Conrad Kühnöl, a dentist in private practice from Dresden (Germany), sees this option as another important step toward systematically storing the large amounts of data generated in practices and using it expediently in patient communication and treatment: “It is absolutely essential to establish a workflow that simplifies the handling of digital data records. In my view, DS Core™ makes this sustainable for the future. The same patient data is available in the cloud for all practice computers used. Oral scans, photos or X-ray images can be viewed any time. The program organizes the data autonomously with no intervention required by the dentist. Current and historical X-ray images and photos are organized separately via interfaces between DS Core™ and Sidexis®, so the entire patient history can be retrieved. This means that each patient record remains clearly structured despite the increasing volume of data.”

“By integrating historical imaging data, we offer our DS Core™ customers a comprehensive patient overview,” explains Max Milz, Group Vice President of Connected Technology Solutions at Dentsply Sirona. “This total view of the patients’ data can reveal valuable insights for treatment planning in collaboration with specialist colleagues or lab partners. DS Core™ serves as a catalyst for holistic patient care, empowering dentists so they can advance with confidence.”

DS Core™ Communication Canvas: Annotation for 3D X-rays and canvas remembers previous arrangement of media.

In line with the expanded options for uploading historical X-ray images to DS Core™, the Communications Canvas in DS Core™ has also received several updates: Firstly, the Communication Canvas now remembers the individually set-up arrangement of media and existing annotations from a previous session for a patient, to allow the dentist to dive right into the prepared patient conversation. This makes it easier to prepare for the patient consultation and supports the evaluation of the case.

Secondly, the annotation tool has been extended. Freehand and text comments can now also be added to 3D X-ray images, not just 2D images. Relevant findings can be highlighted during consultation and used for effective patient communication.

Users can delete, edit, hide and track the annotations on slice views of the 3D X-ray image.

Further information on Sidexis® 4.4 can be found here, and more details on the new Sidexis® Uploader can be found here.

Forward Science Continues to Lead the Fight Against Oral Cancer with OralID

Posted on Thursday, May 16, 2024

In 2024, more than 2 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the U.S. Despite advancements in technology and increased awareness, oral cancer remains an outlier, as survival rates have not increased for over three decades. Oral cancer is preventable and highly treatable when discovered early, yet it continues to claim countless lives due to late-stage diagnosis. Forward Science is proud to celebrate its eleventh Oral Cancer Awareness Month by reaffirming its commitment to changing lives with its flagship product, OralID.

Oral cancer rates are on the rise in the U.S., yet awareness remains low. Many people associate oral cancer with older individuals who smoke or use tobacco, but this reality is changing. The fastest-growing group developing oral cancer are young non-smokers. April’s Oral Cancer Awareness Month is dedicated to educating and motivating the public to get screened in order to increase the likelihood of early diagnosis, and ultimately enhancing the quality of life for clinicians, patients, and communities worldwide. OralID has revolutionized screening for oral cancer, providing clinicians with a tool to visualize abnormalities that may not be visible under the naked eye in traditional examinations.

“At Forward Science, we recognize that oral cancer awareness is not limited to a single month but is a year-round imperative,” emphasizes Robert J. Whitman, CEO of Forward Science. “Through educational efforts and the advanced technology of OralID, we believe our partnership with healthcare professionals can change more lives through the visualization of lesions that may be pre-cancerous.”

In 2014, Forward Science received FDA clearance for its life changing device, OralID. A decade later, OralID devices are used by clinicians worldwide in effort to change the trends in oral cancer. But for the Forward Science team, this is just the beginning. “As we celebrate Oral Cancer Awareness Month, we are reminded of the impact we’ve made and are inspired to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation in oral healthcare,” adds Whitman.

Introducing FASTCheck15™: The ONLY 15-Minute In-Office Waterline Test for Rapid, Reliable Verification of Dental Waterline Safety

Posted on Thursday, May 16, 2024

Sterisil®, the leading provider of dental water safety solutions and a brand within the Solmetex® family, today announced the launch and immediate availability of the FASTCheck15™ waterline test. Sterisil’s FASTCheck15™ is designed to help dental practices simplify the challenge of ensuring safe and clean water with speed, simplicity, and comprehensive support.

“In today’s modern, fast-paced dental practices, efficiency and patient safety are of the utmost importance,” said Chanda Chatham, Marketing Director at Solmetex. “FASTCheck15™ addresses these critical needs by delivering accurate results in just 15 minutes. This rapid turnaround enables immediate action if warranted, or to promptly resume treating patients with the confidence that their water is safe for patients.”

FASTCheck15™ offers several key advantages:

Rapid, reliable results: FASTCheck15™ delivers accurate results in just 15 minutes, unlike currently available testing methods which require mailing samples to a lab or in-office tests that can take days.

User-friendly: The easy-to-read test strip eliminates potential for interpretation error, with one line indicating a passed test and two lines signaling a failed result.

Affordable: FASTCheck15™ costs about half as much as paddle tests and only a fraction compared to lab tests, effectively removing the financial barrier that prevents practices from testing regularly.

Comprehensive support: FASTCheck15™ is backed by Sterisil®’s Water Safety Team and the Solmetex® My Solutions Center, providing practices with the resources they need to meet regulatory requirements.

Provides flexibility: Can be used any day of the week, rather than being limited to certain days of the week to get mail-in lab test results during operating hours.

FASTCheck15™ is an essential component of the comprehensive Sterisil® SafeWater Protocol, which seamlessly integrates with the broader Solmetex® System of Solutions to provide complete dental unit waterline (DUWL) management. Together, these solutions ensure that dental practices can consistently deliver safe, compliant water to patients.

Kuraray Noritake Dental Introduces CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2

Posted on Thursday, May 16, 2024

Kuraray Noritake Dental, the innovative leader in dental adhesive technology, today announced the launch of its latest product, CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2. This advanced single-bottle adhesive builds upon Kuraray’s pioneering work in etching and chemically bonding dentin, as well as formulating the original MDP adhesive monomer.

CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2 features a proprietary blend of MDP, Amide, and Urethane Tetramethacrylate (UTM) monomers that enables quick and easy application without a separate activation step. This new chemistry allows for immediate bonding to enamel and dentin, eliminating the need for a waiting period. The formulation also creates a thin, uniform adhesive layer that prevents pooling, resulting in stronger and more predictable bond strengths to both enamel and dentin.

“CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2 represents the next generation of adhesive dentistry,” said Dinesh Weerasinghe, PhD, Sr. Technical & Marketing Manager, Dental Division, Kuraray America. “By addressing common challenges like application time, film thickness, and bond layer uniformity, this product delivers exceptional performance that simplifies the bonding process for clinicians.”

In addition to its clinical benefits, CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2 offers versatility, allowing it to be used across a wide range of direct and indirect restorative procedures, including light-cured composite fillings, self-adhesive cementation, and more. Furthermore, this adhesive can be used with other self- adhesive resin cements without a separate activator. The product is available in both bottle and unit- dose delivery options to suit various practice needs.

The R&D Team at Kuraray Noritake Dental strongly believes that the launch of CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2 reinforces Kuraray Noritake Dental’s commitment to developing innovative solutions that improve the quality and efficiency of dental care. They are excited to bring this advanced adhesive technology to their customers, enabling them to provide better outcomes for their patients.

DEXIS Innovation Continues with New DEXIS Ti2 Sensor as Successor to the DEXIS Titanium Sensor, the #1 Selling Intraoral Sensor in the United States

Posted on Thursday, May 16, 2024

Today, DEXIS launches the latest innovation in its digital ecosystem with an all-new dental intraoral sensor, the DEXIS Ti2 sensor. The DEXIS digital ecosystem is a comprehensive, AI-powered platform for dental imaging, designed to connect and streamline digital workflows for enhanced productivity.

The Ti2 sensor builds on the success of its predecessor, the DEXIS Titanium sensor, the #1 digital intraoral sensor in the United States.* In 2023, DEXIS sensors processed over 167 million images, making it a top choice for intraoral sensors and scanners, as well as X-ray and CBCT technology worldwide.

Bringing several new features to the DEXIS 2D imaging portfolio, the Ti2 sensor includes:

• A housing design that's twice as durable as previous generations

• A proactive servicing module

• Access to 2D AI Dental Findings that automatically detect up to six types of dental findings on 2D radiographs

With DEXIS, 2D AI Dental Findings are integrated into both DTX Studio™ Clinic and DEXIS Imaging Suite software—not a separate third-party application. 2D AI Dental Findings automatically identifies periapical radiolucency, bone loss, calculus, caries, discrepancy at margin of existing restoration, and root canal filling deficiency.

“For patients with periodontal disease, we have identified sub-gingival calculus and monitored their bone levels. Caries detection and diagnosis is clear and precise with the contrast available with these images,” said Dr. Moe Katz of Katz & Pfeffer Dental Studio.

The Ti2 sensor housing is twice as durable and two times as drop-resistant as the Titanium sensor. The new posterior holder and WiseAngle™ cable design reduce stress on the sensor/cable connection, further strengthening the Ti2 sensor.

DEXIS also focuses on maximizing the productivity of the dental practice with the newly launched DEXIS Connect Pro. The solution proactively monitors the health of the DEXIS family of sensors through IoT technology and automatically arranges support or equipment replacements if performance issues are ever detected.

“DEXIS Connect Pro provides the kind of customer experience I’ve come to expect from DEXIS,” says Amber Metro-Sanchez, dental hygienist at Omni Dental. “The knowledge that my sensor communicates with DEXIS support and that they’re ready to help me if I ever need it gives me peace of mind. They’ve always been so responsive and helpful, DEXIS Connect Pro demonstrates the kind of attention to customer care and continuous innovation I’ve grown accustomed to with DEXIS.”

Through the use of CleanCapture™ technology, the Ti2 sensor captures high-resolution images by reducing noise and enhancing anatomical detail. The technology allows the sensor to be flexible and ready to adapt to varying exposure levels, generator usage, or positioning techniques to capture clear, accurate images reliably—even in challenging circumstances.

Equipped with its PerfectSize™ design, the Ti2 sensor is engineered to fit every patient comfortably, making it a convenient, one-size-fits-all solution for busy practices.

Experience the new DEXIS Ti2 sensor at booth 1665, May 16-18, 2024, during CDA.
